Ron
Coles We're very honoured to have Ron Coles here on Trent - he ran the original Radio Trent from 1980 to 1992, and for many of us, he was the boss! At Trent, he launched Gem AM, and FM stations in Leicester and Derby, before merging with BRMB and Mercia to form Midlands Radio plc which he floated on the stock exchange. He went on to launch Radio 106FM (now Gem 106) and the Saga stations in Nottingham, Birmingham, and Glasgow. Before that, Ron had worked for the BBC, at Radios Leicester, Nottingham & Sheffield, and also on news programmes for Radio 4, and on Radio 1's Newsbeat. Ron has a passion for music from the 50s & 60s and for the past 15 years he has presented a Rock ‘n’ Roll show on various stations. In fact, back in the late 50s and early 60s he did play the drums in a group which got back together again for occasional gigs in 2006. In 2010, he was awarded an Alumni Fellowship from Sunderland University for his ‘outstanding contribution to the radio broadcasting industry’. See our Programme Schedule for times. |
